FAMILY DUEL AT CADWELL PARK
03 August 2006 - MotorSport Vision
Father and Son-in-Law go Head-to-Head on Classic Motorcycles
This weekend, the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club makes its annual visit to Cadwell Park, with a total of 40 races taking place over the course of two action-packed days. There will once again be many different categories of bike competing, from 125s right up to 1300cc monsters, with machinery spanning four decades, from the 50s through to the 80s. There are also sidecars in action, as usual proving a great complement to bike racing. One local rider sure to have a different sort of opposition is Grantham’s Simon Walsh. Last season he finally took his first CRMC Championship title in the Junior Twins division, but the man he beat into second was John Davidson, who happens to be his own father-in-law! This year however, it’s a different story, with Davidson leading the championship, although Walsh has won every race he’s finished so far. Titanic battles are sure to unfold during their four races this weekend; two on each day. Another top local rider taking part at Cadwell this weekend is Market Deeping’s Dave Witt. A man who can claim both showjumper and disc-jockey as previous professions is clearly no stranger to action and having finished last year’s 500cc Group 2 Champion as runner-up, will be eager to go one better this time around. He currently leads the series after four wins in a row earlier in the year, but will want to add to his tally with four races at his home track. Dave is competing on the Goldstars with which he began his career more than two decades ago at Cadwell, so this weekend will be a return to the old days for him. Meanwhile, a local with a slightly different story to tell is John Fawcett. Hailing from Holton Le Clay, he began racing at a very early age, competing in beach-racing, motocross and grass-tracking for 40 years before making the switch to road racing in 2005. Riding a Seeley 500, he scored a top-ten finish in the season-opener at Mallory Park, and will hope to better that in one of his first visits to his home track. Classic bikes are always well-suited to the Cadwell Park circuit, and with two whole days filled with racing and parades, Cadwell Park is a great destination for historic bike entertainment this weekend! Tickets for the Classic Motorcycle Racing Club race meeting will be available on the gate, and are priced at £12. Children aged 12 and under go free.
