Cycle race with Superbike stars opens weekend’s action
Brands Hatch is set to host the biggest event of its season on 4/5/6 August as the Corona Extra Superbike World Championship comes to the Kent circuit. Before three days of competition from some of the world''s fastest riders, the public are being given the chance to come to the circuit for an afternoon of action - all free of charge. Although the motorbikes don''t appear on track until Friday, the weekend''s first race will take place on Thursday lunchtime as the World Superbike riders line up on the Brands Hatch grid to challenge each other in a race around the circuit - on push bikes. Some of the Championship''s biggest stars will be taking part - Championship leader Troy Bayliss, 2004 World Champion James Toseland and Chris Walker are among those already confirmed, along with wildcard entry Tommy Hill. ''The race is going to start out as a bit of fun, but I am sure it will get serious,'' said Walker, one of three British riders competing at the weekend. Former Champion James Toseland said of the race: ''I am more of a runner, although fitness will not be a problem. It''s going to be different and it will be a very interesting race to watch!'' After the cycle race, the riders will move on to the Paddock Show where fans can meet the stars of the weekend, asking them questions and getting autographs before the serious racing starts. Entry to the circuit and paddock will be free of charge on Thursday to allow as many fans as possible to meet their Superbike heroes. Fans wanting to watch the cycle race should arrive at Brands Hatch for lunchtime, with the start due to take place at 12.30 and the paddock show from 2.00pm-5.20pm. Race fans can purchase discounted tickets for the Corona Extra Superbike World Championship by booking in advance at www.brandshatch.co.uk or calling 0870 950 9000 before midday on Tuesday 1 August.
