TIGERS ALL STOKE-D UP TO HIT BACK FROM HOME DEFEAT
11 September 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SHEFFIELD PIRTEK TIGERS v STOKE POTTERSPREMIER LEAGUESUNDAY SEPTEMBER 12 - 6.45pm
SHEFFIELD Pirtek Tigers know that nothing less than a win will do if they are to keep alive their hopes of a top eight place and qualification for the end of season play-offs when they face Stoke at Owlerton on Sunday (6.45pm). Their long and proud unbeaten home record which stretched back six years was broken by Workington on Thursday and heat-leader Ricky Ashworth feels it''s a good thing to have another meeting so soon. He said: ''We need to get the defeat out of our system and we''ll be doing our best to ensure we can do it against Stoke. It''s a big meeting and I''m sure they''ll bring plenty of support with them.'' Sheffield include big rival Paul Thorp as a replacement for Wilson, a move which has again sparked mixed reaction from Tigers fans. Thorp scored a maximum against King''s Lynn ten days ago for the Owlerton side on a night when some fans stayed away in protest at his inclusion in the side after several brushes with Sheffield supporters down the years. Stoke include Sheffield asset Robbie Kessler in a powerful top four which also features Jan Staechmann, Alan Mogridge and Paul Pickering. TIGERS: Paul Thorp, Andrew Moore R/R, Richard Hall, Ricky Ashworth, Andre Compton, James Birkinshaw, Ben Wilson. STOKE: Paul Pickering, Trent Leverington, Robbie Kessler, Alan Mogridge, Jan Staechmann, Paul Clews, Rob Grant.
