BRITISH SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 11.9.04
11 September 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

DAVID Howe admitted he was surprised when he received the call to ride in Sunday''s Elite League Riders'' Championship at Poole.

Howe represents Wolverhampton in a meeting which also features current world championship leader Jason Crump and title hopeful Greg Hancock. Howe said: ''It was such a pleasant surprise to learn I was in the event and it''s a challenge I''m really looking forward to taking part in.'' Adam Shields replaces the injured David Norris in the only change to the original line-up for the meeting which starts at 4pm.

LINE-UP: Leigh Adams (Swindon), Ryan Sullivan (Poole), David Howe (Wolverhampton), Greg Hancock (Oxford), Andreas Jonsson (Coventry), Mark Loram (Arena Essex), Lee Richardson (Peterborough), Bjarne Pedersen (Poole), Nicki Pedersen (Eastbourne), Kenneth Bjerre (Belle Vue), Scott Nicholls (Ipswich), Adam Shields (Eastbourne), Jason Crump (Belle Vue), Gary Havelock (Peterborough), Mikael Max (Wolverhampton), Hans Andersen (Ipswich).

OXFORD''S hopes of a play-off place suffered a crushing blow with a narrow 45-44 defeat at the hands of Ipswich, who boosted their hopes of a top three position. The Silver Machine now face a tall order to make the top five with Swindon favourites to claim the last spot. Greg Hancock was top man for the Silver Machine with 15+1 and Scott Nicholls was leading scorer in a more solid Ipswich side with 12.
