TEST OUT THOSE HARD MOUNTAIN ROADS
25 July 2006 - Centopassi
AFTER TRAVELLING 1,475 KM, THE FOURTH ANNUAL CENTOPASSI CHALLENGE COMES TO A CLOSE AT BARDONECCHIA, WITH FLAVIO MANESTRINA AS THE WINNER
Centopassi, the motorcycling event dedicated to riders who love to put to themselves to the test on the hardest mountain roads, was brought to an end at Bardonecchia on July 22nd after four thrilling and demanding legs through the Western Alps. Flavio Manestrina, on a Ducati Multistrada 1000DS, came in first overall in the Competition Class with a total of 67 points gained through ability trials and time controls completed during the four day marathon, on the most spectacular mountain passes in France and Italy. His coveted prize is a Ducati Multistrada 620, which Manestrina used to return home to Toscolano Maderno, near the town of Brescia. He was accompanied by a large group of friends who were by his side during the whole adventure and celebrated his victory with him. Alessandro Severi, on his BMW GS 1200R, finished second, with 52 points and Enrico Corbani, on his Ducati 996, came in third with a total of 46 points. In the team results, the Garda Bikers B Team came in first with 119 points, followed by the Cistauri Team with a total of 95 points, and the Umbria BMW Racing Team in third place with 94 points. Centopassi 2006 was organised for the fourth year in a row by Dream Engine from Bologna. This year the event hosted 150 passionate motorcyclists from many different nations, including Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, England, Holland, Spain, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Greece and the USA. They departed from Nice on July 19th, after which participants from both classes – Competition and Iron Biker – completed four legs travelling through the most beautiful passes of the Western Alps: Colle della Lombarda, Colle della Maddalena, Col de Vars, Col de l’Echelle, Colle delle Finestre, Col de Sampeyre, Colle dell’Agnello, Col de l’Izoard, Col de Mont-Genevre, Col du Lautaret, Col du Galibier, Col du Telegraphe, Col du Chaussy, Col de la Madeleine, Col du Meraillet, Col de l’Iseran, Col du Mont Cenis, Col de la Strenne, Alpe d’Huez, Col del la Croix de Fer, and Col du Mollard. Bardonecchia served as the base camp for Villaggio Centopassi, hosting all leg arrivals, departures, entertainment, ability trials and obstacle courses. Bardonecchia’s role in Centopassi once again underlines the motorcyclist nature of its region, for both its unique geographical characteristics as well as its vast and varied tourism infrastructures. On July 21st, the Centopassi Village hosted the GARAGEDIABOLICO party, inspired by Carlo Cianferoni’s cartoon strip that with the author’s “hard core bike story” exalts the bittersweet romanticism of so many motorcyclists. The party was open to the public and was graced by the presence of VIP guests, including Italian talk show star Diego Conte and show girls Eva Collini and Svetoslava Lozanova. DJ Fabio Piane with MilanoBellaVita was in charge of the music, and Disaronno, Artic, RonVaradero and Corvo provided drinks. Centopassi 2006 was made possible thanks to the support for the second consecutive year of the main sponsor Z Zegna, the fragrance for men by Ermenegildo Zegna, a perfume that speaks of style, sport and seduction, created for a man who is passionate about his liberty, about the open road, motorbikes, speed and travel. The event also relied on the support of the technical partner Ducati Motor, and of Iveco, Bardonecchia Common and Tucano Urbano. The event was organised by Dream Engine under the aegis of Federazione Motociclistica Italiana and with the technical collaboration of the Curve&Tornanti team for planning the itinerary, dell’Auto Moto Club Viterbo for all time keepings and Renato Zocchi as the Race Director. In addition, the help of the Highway Police of Bologna – who accompanied and supported the participants through out the whole route – was invaluable. On the safety front, the event was enriched by the precious collaboration of Doctor’s Costa Clinica Mobile, a highly professional medical support team that follows all the races of the World Motorcycling Championship and Superbike. Clinica Mobile was present at Centopassi with a fixed unit in Bardonecchia and two mobile units, which followed the race.
After this year’s final chapter in the Western Alps, Centopassi 2007 will witness a change of scenery, and a new itinerary is already being put together. Information on Centopassi 2007 will be available on our website (www.centopassi.com) beginning in October.
