SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES - 25TH JULY
25 July 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 POOLE moved firmly into the play-off race by finally breaking their away duck with a 48-42 win at Belle Vue on Monday. Ironically the Pirates'' first victory on the road in the Elite League this season was also the Aces'' first home defeat. Poole boss Neil Middleditch said: ''We''ve been searching for this all season so it''s like finding the Holy Grail. We were the better side on the night.'' SPEEDWAY 2 EDINBURGH skipper Theo Pijper will miss Friday''s clash with Somerset after injuring his wrist in a freak accident. The injury was collected in a football match against a Monarchs'' supporters team, with Pijper sustaining muscle and ligament damage. He said: ''Someone kicked my wrist instead of the ball! The hospital told me I should take two to three weeks off, but I hope I won''t have to do that.''
