25 July 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway
WOLVES 45 READING 45 SKIPPER Peter Karlsson rescued a draw for Wolves with a last heat defeat of American ace Greg Hancock at Monmore - Freddie Lindgren taking the crucial third place. Wolves went into Heat 15 two points down at the end of a fascinating contest, and with Hancock unbeaten to that stage, the signs were not looking good. Karlsson, however, had other ideas and swept to the front to prevent the table-topping Bulldogs from registering their seventh away win of the season. Defeat would have been harsh on Wolves who had led for most of the meeting after early 5-1s in Heats 2 and 4. Reading, with both Janusz Kolodziej and Andy Smith absent, gradually got their act together and Sam Simota came up with a fine ride to narrow Wolves'' lead to just two points as he managed to get past Magnus Karlsson and Christian Hefenbrock in the closing stages. Lindgren threw everything at Matej Zagar in Heat 9 without reward, and Simota fell heavily in Heat 10 when he attempted another spectacular move around the outside. Hancock and Travis McGowan got Reading level with a 5-1 in Heat 11, and the visitors then took the lead in Heat 12 as Charlie Gjedde took the flag. Karlsson and Billy Hamill went either side of Zagar in Heat 13 to protect a 3-3 situation behind Hancock, and the penultimate race also provided plenty of action with Lindgren passing Gjedde to win but Simota snatching third from Lawson. Fortunately, Karlsson and Lindgren were up to the job in the last race to salvage a point after a fine contest between two well-matched sides. WOLVERHAMPTON: Peter Karlsson 13, Fredrik Lindgren 10, Billy Hamill 6+2, Magnus Karlsson 5+2, William Lawson 5, Ronnie Correy 4+2, Christian Hefenbrock 2. READING: Greg Hancock 14, Travis McGowan 9+2, Matej Zagar 9, Charlie Gjedde 8, Sam Simota 5+2, Glenn Cunningham 0, r/r for Janusz Kolodziej.
