DUCATI TAKE THE LEAD WITH Q8OILS

Ducati has maintained its lead in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship following another consistent weekend’s work by Leon Haslam and the Airwaves Ducati team at Oulton Park.

Haslam is now just 5 points off of the championship lead, but it is no longer teammate Gregorio Lavilla that he is chasing after the Spaniard finished 3rd in the first race but failed to finish race 2. Honda’s Kiyonari now heads the championship, having won both races, but with just 14 points separating him from Lavilla in third, it is too close to call at this point.

In the first race Leon got a strong start from second place on the grid and was leading the field by the following lap. However, the 4-cylinder Hondas were in unstoppable form and Kiyo retook the lead, which he held until the end. Lavilla worked his way through the field from 6th to 4th place before overtaking Tommy Hill on lap 6 to take a valuable podium position.

This put Airwaves Ducati in a strong position for Race 2. Leon moved into 4th place from the start, with Gregorio in 7th. Then on lap 8 disaster struck - Gregorio started to experience problems with his bike and had to retire. This left three Hondas in front, but Leon passed Rea to claim third and his second podium of the day.

Leon Haslam was pleased with his performance at Oulton Park. “I have an eye on the championship lead now I am only 5 points off it so I will continue to push for race wins and go into the last part of the season with confidence.”
