GREAT RESULTS FOR HIEMER
25 July 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

7000 spectators for the weekend but on Sunday numbers in Mores were like 19% humidity, 38 degrees on the air and 52 degrees on the asphalt. It was a tiring day for Supermoto racers.

Both categories hosted a KTM-Aprilia challenge.

In S1 the podium was composed by Hiemer, Iddon and Gotz, with the German on top and the other two following him. Hiemer got a full score thanks to two back to back wins. In the first moto he had Delepine ahead of him; the Belgian had passed him on the off-road section after a mistake by the German. But Delepine broke the bike and his race finished before the flag. Iddon did second ahead of Lazzarini, both riding injured and challenging each other until the last laps when Lazzarini finished his body power and brought the bike home in third. Thanks to them the crowd could witness one of the best manoeuvres of Supermoto history, with the Italian and the Englishman lapping next to each other from the first turn to the entrance of the off road section. Gotz got fourth while local rider Pes made to get fifth place.

In second race there was Hiemer again on top, despite an injured knee from a motocross crash after the last race of Melk. The German kept his steady pace for the entire race but it was not a race on his own. He had to keep very focused with Iddon, Delepine and Gotz behind him, all coming close to each other on the off-road session. At the end Delepine won the battle with Gotz and moved past him at the eleventh lap; on the other hand fresh graduate Iddon did not make to move past Hiemer: he could not try different lines from the ones he was doing because Delepine was right behind waiting for an open door.

If in the S1 podium there were 2 KTMs and 1 Aprilia, it was the opposite thing in S2 with 2 Aprilias and 1 KTM. Giraudo won the GP, with Bolley second and Chambon third.

Superpole winner VDB had a great start to the first race leaving Seel and Chambon behind. But the French Aprilia rider had a crash towards the end of the race; he restarted in the top three but crashed again and his race was finished. First place was handed to Bolley who won the heat ahead of Giraudo, having started the challenge from the bottom of the top ten. Chambon ended the first moto in third place while Gozzini, who made to touch second place, lost his hopes when the bike stopped in the off-road section.

In the second heat VDB made no mistakes and showed all his potential getting the win. Giraudo got another second place after having moved past Chambon at the seventh lap and the KTM rider ended with another third place; it was a bit more complicated for Bolley, dropping down until fifth place but making to pass Beltrami towards the end of the race and securing fifth place. For Chareyre the race started with a run off the track at the second lap; he made up ground and arrived behind Verderosa but the Italian crashed and Adrien was too close to avoid a crash. Once he got up on the bike a rider crashed into him so second moto ended with the Frenchman in seventeenth place. Seel was ninth: at the first lap he had to run off track to avoid a rider coming into his line.

In the S1 Supermoto Championship it is Hiemer leading the series, having Iddon in second with a 28 point gap and Lazzarini in third, one point ahead of team mate Delepine. In S2 VDB is the leader but Giraudo has the same score and lies in second. There is another Aprilia in third with Bolley while fourth place is for Adrien Chareyre.
