ANOTHER WINNER FOR BMF KELSO BIKEFEST
20 July 2006 - BMF

15th – 16th July, Springwood Park, Kelso

The seventh annual BMF Kelso Bikefest, the first to be held in a two-day format, proved a winner for thousands over the weekend as temperatures soared at this popular Scottish riverside venue.

Set in border country in Kelso’s Springwood Park, the attendance rose too, reaching an all time high at 13,035, up over 700 on last year’s figures, but the big difference was in those camping with some 1,900 taking advantage of the fantastic weather, 58% up on the camping figures last year!

Renowned for being in wonderful biking country, Saturday’s ride-out proved a hit with many and added another dimension to Kelso’s Civic Week while back at base, those energetic enough took part in a Tug of War while an impromptu run around the arena saw £145 raised for Sport Relief. Thousands more just relaxed in the sun, browsed the many trade and club stalls or saved themselves for the Saturday evening entertainment with live bands.

Sunday’s main arena this year featured James Dylan’s Stuntworld and top performances from the freestyle motocross team UK FMX with Jamie Squib and Chris Birch thrilling the crowds as they took off from their specially constructed angled ramps with a spectacular routine of aerial aerobatics.

The Denny Dobson Air Display also put on a real aerobatic display with Denny’s Pitt Special showing just what a purpose made bi-plane can do.

In the Best in Show competition, a spectacular custom chopper built by the newly formed company, Wild Boar, won hands-down with a bike powered by a massive 1853cc V twin engine from the American Ultima company.

The next and final event in the BMF’s quartet of 2006 events is Tail End, the BMF’s end of season show on 16 –17th September, East of England Showground, Peterborough.
