GERMAN GRAND PRIX / SACHSENRING RACE (16.07.2006)
16 July 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG
RR WCH 125 Round 10 - Mika Kallio slips to eighth place
After a good start, Red Bull KTM GP 125 rider Mika Kallio was sitting at third place and it looked like it was going to be an exciting race. But already by the third lap hopes of a podium had faded after problems with the back wheel. Mika slipped to eighth place in the laps that followed. Replacement rider Randy Krummenacher earned praise from Race Director Harald Bartol for a good weekend’s effort after he finished 16th. Coming from the Red Bull ADAC KTM Juniors, Krummenacher was replacing the injured Julian Simon. Krummenacher also raced for Julian at Donington. Stefan Bradl, the only starter for the Red Bull KTM GP Juniors, lost some places after the start when one of his opponents rode into his side, forcing him to drop out of the group led by Krummenacher because his rear tyre was losing its grip. Bradl’s teammate Michael Ranseder from Austria was unable to race because of pelvic injuries sustained in testing last week in Brno. Robin Lässer, youngest rider in the KTM family and from the Red Bull ADAC KTM Junior Team had bad luck with his first ever GP wildcard. He was jolted in the arm by a crashed bike of another rider and had to retire in the 17th lap of the 27 lap race because of the pain. Mika Kallio # 36 Red Bull KTM GP 125 – 8th Place “I certainly didn’t plan it like this today. I did have a good start but I was already slipping back in the third lap. I had real problems with the grip going into the left corners. At the moment I really don’t know why the problem came up so suddenly and so badly, but my team is looking into it. I’m going to try to shut off a bit in the break until Brno.” Randy Krummenacher # 54 Red Bull KTM GP 125 – 16th Place “That was really fun! It’s a great feeling when you fight in a group that includes some top riders. I was already 16th after the first lap and after than I even overtook Koyama but he came right back and passed me again. I attacked him again in the last corner before the start finish line but I slipped coming out of the corner. Otherwise it might have been possible to pick up my first point. What I really enjoyed was that I was riding in the group that was fighting for places 9-16. For Brno the Red Bull ADAC KTM Juniors have applied for a wild card. When I get it then I’ll have to try to be more up front during practice and then go for my first point.” Stefan Bradl # 17 Red Bull KTM Junior Team – 18th Place “Someone ran into me in the second corner and I immediately lost a couple of places. Then I had problems from the eighth lap, I slipped back badly and lost confidence and wasn’t able to improve on my times from then on.” Robin Lässer # 61 Red Bull ADAC KTM Juniors– DNF ”I was actually going well. After the start I didn’t get too freaked out by what was going on around me. I looked for a gap or I went out over the curbs. It was fun. Then someone in front of me did a highsider. His bike hit me on the left hand and I came off the track into the gravel. When I got back I was last and then I passed two riders. I had already hurt my hand yesterday and after it got hit by the flying bike the pain was too much and I couldn’t work the clutch and hold the bike up anymore.” Circuit: dry / 33°C Air temperature: 22°C
