MIXED FORTUNES FOR Q8OILS AND AIRWAVES DUCATI IN SCOTLAND
21 July 2006 - Q8 Oils
The Airwaves Ducati team had a mixed weekend at Knockhill, in spite of front row starts for both riders.
Leon Haslam showed consistent form, finishing 3rd in both races whilst Gregorio Lavilla finished 11th in the first race but failed to finish the second. In race one, Leon took the lead on lap 3, but behind him Gregorio, running in 5th place, went wide at the hairpin and came to a stop having experienced an electrical problem with his Airwaves Ducati, relegating him down to 24th position. Back at the front Honda-mounted Kiyonari pursued Haslam and managed to slip-stream him and take the lead as the pair started lap 27. Leon attempted to re-take the lead but went wide and dropped down to 3rd where he finished the race. Gregorio managed to fight his way through the field back up to 11th position to gain 5 crucial championship points and protect his number one plate. The second race was another mixed affair for the Airwaves Ducati team. Both riders made up a place on the start putting Leon in 2nd and Gregorio in 3rd, but in the latter part of the race neither were able to hold off the charging Ulsterman Jonathan Rea on his Honda. On lap 27, Gregorio made an uncharacteristic error, slipped off on a white line and failed to finish. Haslam crossed the line in 3rd, just 3.454 seconds behind the race winning Suzuki of Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne. Luck proved equally elusive for Honda’s Ryuichi Kiyonari, who also suffered an electrical failure. “Knockhill is an incredibly demanding circuit and the new lap record of 94.41 mph shows how fierce the racing was, compared to 90.67 mph at Mallory,” notes Denis Stone of Q8Oils. “We’re delighted that our lubricants have contributed to the mechanical reliability of the big Ducati V-twins that has kept them in the lead of the Manufacturers’ standings this season.” For more information on the Q8Oils range of market leading motorcycle lubricants please contact: marketing@Q8Oils.com.
