BARRAGAN PENS NEW TWO YEAR DEAL (15.07.2006)
15 July 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

Current Red Bull KTM motocross rider Jonathan Barragan last week signed a new contract to represent the company in the FIM MX1 World Championship for another two years.

The soon-to-be 21 year old has been riding in ‘orange’ since 2001 and will now extend his association to eight seasons.

The Spaniard, who has become a leading motorsport figure in his native country over the past four months thanks to a debut World Championship podium in Portugal (the first for a Spaniard since the last Grand Prix of 2002 in Russia) and four top three moto finishes so far, travelled to Mattighofen in Austria to confirm the deal.

“Of course it is great for me to sign this and I have been very happy with the work KTM have done this season not only at the races but also in all the testing,” he said. “I have been with KTM since I was young and for me the works team is the best in the paddock. I can’t say how excited I am to be with them for another two years and I really want to seize this opportunity.”

“I started this year working with a new bike and as part of the R&D department but for next year I will be one of the main guys and focus purely on racing and getting results on the track as well as in the workshop,” he added.

“We signed Jonathan to develop our new bike for 2006 and this was something of a landmark in the company,” said KTM Off-road Sport Director Pit Beirer. “When we lost our two top guys at the start of the season Jonathan did very well and placed the bike on the podium at only the third round. We are pleased to have confirmed this agreement with him and now he will have the chance to be our number one factory rider.”
