FRONT ROW START FOR AIRWAVES DUCATI
15 July 2006 - Airwaves Ducati

Airwaves Ducati riders Leon Haslam and Gregorio Lavilla will start on the front row of the grid for tomorrow’s British Superbike races at Knockhill after qualifying with 3rd and 4th fastest times of the day.

On a sunny Fife morning, Haslam dominated the third free practice session lapping the 1.2986 mile circuit in 48.49 seconds. Lavilla improved on his times from yesterday to finish just 0.15 seconds behind Jonathan Rea who finished in 2nd.

With air temperatures of 25 degrees and a track temperature of 40 degrees, Haslam consistently lapped under the 49 second barrier in this afternoon’s qualifying session. His fastest time of 48.41 came on his 25th lap and was good enough to secure him 3rd on the grid. Lavilla’s pace continued to improve all day and his 48.56 in qualifying ensured that he will start alongside his team mate for tomorrow’s races.

Gregorio, who now leads the Audi Quattro Performance Award by just 1 point over Leon Haslam, commented, “I am pleased that we have qualified on the front row at Knockhill and it will be important to get good starts tomorrow. Today the times were very close so I am expecting there to be a tough fight between at least 4 or 5 riders.”

Leon said “I’m pretty happy to be starting from the front row of the grid tomorrow but I’m not quite as quick as I would have liked to have been. This weekend we’ve managed fast times on race as well as qualifying tyres so I hope tomorrow will be good for us.”

Colin Wright added, “The boys have done a great job today, Greg has continued his run of front row starts and still leads the pole position championship. Leon has been quick in all the practice sessions and is feeling confident for the races. We have not enjoyed the best results at Knockhill in the past so hopefully we can turn things round and leave here with four strong point scoring races.”

Round 8 of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship takes place tomorrow, Sunday 15th July.
