15 July 2006 - AMA Pro Racing
Sunday’s FMF Pro Motocross National at Unadilla Expects Sunny Skies
Sandwiched between passing rain storms, the FMF Pro Motocross National at Unadilla Valey Sports Center was able to get in one solid round of practice in preparation for Sunday’s sixth round of the Toyota AMA Motocross Championship, presented by FMF. Ricky Carmichael, of Havana, Fla., placed his Suzuki at the top of the rankings with a fast lap time of 2:18.249, over two seconds quicker than Kawasaki’s James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., who clocked a 2:20.395. The first of two scheduled practice sessions was conducted just minutes after a morning shower storm passed through the New Berlin area. Carmichael took advantage of the wet but controllable conditions in posting his fastest lap late in session. Yamaha’s Chad Reed, of Tampa, Fla., was third fastest with a 2:22.825. Skies opened up between practices and drenched the race course, forcing a majority of the top riders to sit out the second practice session. The weather forecast calls for sunny skies on Sunday with a high temperature 86 degrees. In Motocross Lites, Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., who has won three of the five races this season, set the fastest lap time with a 2:25.634. Yamaha’s Matt Walker, of McDonough, Ga., was second quickest at 2:25.847, while teammate Brett Metcalfe, of Murrieta, Calif., was third 2:26.321.
