UNLUCKY James Birkinshaw''s comeback from injury lasted just two races before he damaged his ankle against Stoke on Saturday.

Birkinshaw tangled with Paul Clews and Barrie Evans, Potters skipper Clews also withdrawing from the meeting with a lower leg injury.

Bandits promoter Peter Waite said: ''James'' ankle looked very sore and we''ll have to wait for medical reports. It''s typical of our season.''

WORKINGTON''S Ritchie Hawkins was detained in hospital overnight pending precautionary scans on a head injury.

Hawkins was conscious and alert as he left Derwent Park after crashing during Heat 5 of the Comets'' defeat by Glasgow.
