ALBERT CABESTANY WITHIN ONE POINT OF THE VICTORY
11 July 2006 - Sherco
Albert continues to battle for the outdoor championship title, he has again moved up a position in the overall classification.
He obtained another podium in the ninth round of the Outdoor World Championship which was held near the Polish city of Myslenice. Once again the dominance of the top riders had been very apparent. This year’s race has become very tight indeed. Albert was the leader at the end of the first lap tied with the Japanese rider Takahisa Fujinami. Both riders dueled hard on the last lap, with Adam Raga also riding very strong. At the end of the day Fujinami won the event with one point less than Albert and Raga who tied with 45 points. Raga had one more zero which gave him the second spot on the podium. This third place finish allowed Albert to advance to fourth place in the overall standings; he is now leading Toni Bou by one point, by virtue of Toni’s seventh place finish. Albert Cabestany: “Once more the victory has escaped me by a very small margin. MYSELF, I am satisfied with my riding as I have shown that I am competing at a level with the very best in the world, however it would please me very much to be able to celebrate with an outright victory.”
