PROBLEMS FOR DEMARIA AND BREUGELMANS
11 July 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG
MX3 GP of Faenza, Italy (10.07.2006)
The Italian up-and downhill track of Faenza today was set to be the stage of round 11 of the world-championship MX-3. MX in Italy during summertime means hardtrack & hot weather and hot it was! Both Yves Demaria and Sven Beugelmans struggled with the aftermath of the hard fougth battle in Markelo one week earlier. Teammanager Jacky Martens comments;'' Yves severely strained the liguements in his knee in Markelo and the medical staff has been working with ice and bandages all week.We even had a special knee-brace prepared by CTI during the night in Bologne just to enable Yves to enter the race. This GP now comes one week too early and we knew winning would be virtuallyimpossible. To beat Italian hardtrack-riders on their own turf, you have to be 100%. It is like an Italian trying to beat us in Lommel. The same goes for Sven. His crash in Markelo resulted in a concussion and a bad headache all week, it also slowed his reflexes and coördination. Both races Yves Demaria fought the pain and had to settle for a 9th and a 11th place result after loosing ground every lap.'' Sven Breugelmans also comments;''Against the advice of my doctor I decided to start because I can not afford to loose points to Yves. In the first race I cornered in 5th position and passed Yves for 4th in lap 4. Then I slipped and stalled the bike and was passed by 7 riders. I managed to finish in 10th position, my head felt like it was spinning. The second race I holeshotted(to my relief) and created a gap with only Bricca and Beggi following me.Bricca passed me in lap 5 and I also had to let go of Beggi in lap 10.Still I managed to defend my 3rd position. More than I had hoped for at he beginning of the race..Give me one moreweek to recover, the deep sand of Kegums-Latvia next week suits me muchbetter, I plan to attack there..'' Bader Manneh USA KTM 22 In the Euro-MX2 class, our JMJunior-rider Steven Frossard won the event. He finished with the same amount of points as van-Gerwen rider Dennis Verbruggen who is only one point away from becoming this seasonīs European MX-2 champion. Stevenīs better second-race result in Faenza brought him the overall victory there. Steven lead 14 out of 17 laps in the first race but was fooled by Dennis Verruggen who passed him in lap 16. For race 2, Steven was determined not to let that happen again so he grabbed the lead in lap 6 and kicked his KTM into nitro-mode, winning with force. Joel Roelants lacked his normal souplesse and speed in race 1,starting in 8th and finishing in 9th position.Joel pulled himself together for race 2 and holeshotted (only) to be passed by Frossard and Verbruggen. Joel walked away with a 3rd place and more experience under his belt. Our JMJunior Bram Oosterbosch seems to have a ticket on bad starts, Faenza was no exeption. Bram however compensates by determination and is growing stronger each race. In race 1 he fights back from 30th to19th position. In race two the same scenario, from 26th to 18th. Bramīs do or die mentality surely will pay off when he getīs better starts. Both JMJuniors Kenny Vandueren and Yentel Martens missed out on the race.Kenny is still out with injury and Yentel couldnīt make it in the final 40 during qualifing.Kegums next week is the last Euro MX-2 race this season, so Yentel will surely try again there!
