SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES - 5TH JULY
05 July 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association

SPEEDWAY 1

POOLE co-promoter Mike Golding has stressed that the Pirates'' Knockout Cup quarter-final clash with Reading on Wednesday goes ahead.

Various clubs would have postponed fixtures tonight had England reached the semi-finals of the football World Cup.

Golding said: ''Some fans have the idea that there is no match at Poole this week, but this is not the case and it should be a real thriller.''

KEVIN Doolan will guest for Newport in the first leg of their Knockout Cup tie with Sheffield at Owlerton on Thursday.

Wasps promoter Tim Stone accepts that containment will be the key, and feels he has selected the ideal man to come in for the injured Craig Watson.

Stone said: ''We''re the underdogs but we can keep it close and Kevin has a very important part to play in that.''
