DEMARIA 3RD, BREUGELMANS 9TH IN MX3 GP OF MARKELO

The many spectators who defied the tropical heat at the ''Herikerberg'' MX-circuit in Markelo got treated to one of the most spectacular Motocross-events so far this year in Holland.

Temperatures where rising to a sizzling 36° celcius in the sun which pushed all the riders to the edge and some over.

In the battle for the worldchampionship MX-3, Yves Demaria´s lead over Sven Breugelmans was tied for 15 points after they left both Croatia and Slovenia with the same amount. With only 5 GP´s to go, Sven had set his mind on winning Markelo,( like he did last year) in order to claw -back some points from Yves. Sven immediatly took care of business by holeshotting the first race, followed by Demaria,Ristori and Beggi. Demaria was pushing hard and passed Sven in round 10, when in round 12 Yves bent his frontbrake-lever and was forced to let Breugelmans and Beggi pass.By then the extreme heat really got the better of Sven who couldn´t stay ahead of race winner Beggi, and(more important)was overtaken by Yves Demaria also.

Sven comment´s;''The track-conditions are totally different from last year. The track now is much harder and there are lots of nasty bumps, much more fysically demanding, combined with this hot weatherconditions''.

While Sven had an averige start the second race, Yves Demaria seemed to take control of the situation when he lead the race in front of Oddenino, Ristori and Sven Breugelmans.In the 8th lap however Yves crashed and couldn´t get his KTM restarted immideatly.This caused a drop-back to 4th position which cleared the way for Beggi to take the lead and win the race. Yves managed to fight back to second position when he-again crashed and twisted his knee severely.He remounted and finished in agony in 6th position. He couldn´t make it to the podium to collect his 3rd position cup for the day, so teammanager Jacky Martens did the honours for him.

What happened to Sven Breugelmans? After beïng in 2nd position in the race, Sven crashed heavliy and got knocked-out for a few minutes.This dnf caused a 32 point advantage form Yves over Sven, with now still 4 GP´s to go. As proven in Markelo, anything is possible in motocross so we´ll draw our calculators not just yet.
