PROUD HOME RECORD ON THE LINE IN COMETS CLASHSHEFFIELD PIRTEK TIGERS v WORKINGTON COMETSPREMIER LEAGUETHURSDAY SEPTEMBER 9 - 7.45pm

SHEFFIELD''S long and proud unbeaten home Premier League record comes under serious threat when they face a powerful Workington side on Thursday (7.45pm). Tigers haven''t been beaten at Premier League level around the Owlerton bowl since 1998 - but Workington include former Sheffield rider Simon Stead, who has been a regular guest for injured skipper Sean Wilson, alongside another ex-Tiger Carl Stonehewer. A bumper crowd is expected for a mouthwatering contest which should provide some exciting racing as Sheffield look to overhaul a narrow seven-point deficit for the aggregate bonus point. Co-promoter Neil Machin said: ''Workington are a very powerful side and if any team has what it takes to end our unbeaten home record then Workington do. I''m looking forward to a very tough and competitive meeting full of entertainment for the fans.'' The meeting will also see the launch of a new partnership between the club and former England test star Chris Morton MBE. Morton is representing Caudwell Communications who are offering a Homecall package to Tigers fans offering the opportunity to save on their home telephone costs. Morton, who had a brief spell with the Tigers in 1992, said: ''This is a good way for us to be involved with Sheffield and in turn we can put revenue into the club.''
TIGERS: Shane Parker, Andrew Moore R/R, Richard Hall, Ricky Ashworth, Andre Compton, James Birkinshaw, Ben Wilson.
WORKINGTON: Carl Stonehewer, Brett Woodifield, Rusty Harrison, Kauko Nieminen, Simon Stead, James Wright, Aidan Collins.
