WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY MATCH REPORT
01 July 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway
KNOCKOUT CUP QUARTER FINAL 1st leg EASTBOURNE 55 WOLVERHAMPTON 38 THE Parrys International Wolves will have a major job on their hands at Monmore Green on Monday evening after going down by 17 points in the first leg of their Knockout Cup quarter-final tie. The Eagles'' big guns were certainly firing at Arlington as Wolves were limited to a solitary heat winner all evening, coming courtesy of Billy Hamill''s defeat of a hard-charging Nicki Pedersen in Heat 4. Pedersen and the back-from-injury David Norris predictably scored heavily, but Adam Shields was a shock merchant as he rode to an immaculate 15-point maximum. The main drama of the meeting came in the very last race, which Wolves went into trailing by a 12-point margin - but an Eastbourne 5-0 may well have changed the complexion of the tie. Hamill was first excluded for touching the tapes, sent back 15 metres and then thrown out completely by referee Paul Carrington for rolling as he attempted a fast start to make up ground. That wasn''t the end of Wolves'' troubles, however, as an Eastbourne 4-2 turned into a 5-0 when Fredrik Lindgren went down under a firm inside challenge from Pedersen. The race was awarded, and Wolves will now require the performance of their season on Monday in order to progress. EASTBOURNE: Adam Shields 15, Nicki Pedersen 13+1, David Norris 9, Edward Kennett 6, Dean Barker 4+1, Cameron Woodward 4, Lewis Bridger 4. WOLVES: Billy Hamill 11, Fredrik Lindgren 9+1, Peter Karlsson 9, Ronnie Correy 4+1, Magnus Karlsson 3+2, William Lawson 2, r/r for Christian Hefenbrock.
