KTM CELEBRATES ITS FIRST BIRTHDAY ON THE PODIUM (02.07.2006)
03 July 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG
RR WCH 250 Round 9: British Grand Prix / Donington
“Hero“ Hiroshi Aoyama raced to third place at Donington, the third podium place for the Red Bull KTM GP 250 team. It had already been obvious during qualification training that Donington could be the place for another success for KTM in their now one-year-old efforts in this class. With the result, KTM’s rider, 24-year old Hiroshi Aoyama, delivered the perfect birthday gift to the KTM factory, its partner Red Bull and everybody involved in the development of the 250 project. Hiroshi Aoyama #4 Red Bull GP 250 – 3rd Place “That was a hard race but not bad going. I tried everything to stick with the leaders right from the start. I was second from the 18th lap and together with De Angelis I was able to put the most distance between me and the others. He went for the attack in the final lap and I was able to fight back. Then going into the final hairpin I made mistake and had to run wide. My opponent naturally used this opportunity and went right past me. I am quite satisfied with place three, especially after the two races before this when things did not go according to plan. But it is not my success only that has made this podium possible. It was the work of all the team – the KTM people, the suspension specialists and Dunlop. I hope that with this combination we can keep working like this until the end of the season.'' Manuel Poggiali # 54 Red Bull KTM GP 250 – crash “With 8th place on the grid this was our best position for the season. I did not get away well at the start and then in the 22nd lap I slipped back over the back wheel while pushing to get as many positions as possible. Nothing happened to me but I was naturally very disappointed. Everything went very well this weekend and I was very confident that I could have another good performance like in Assen. In two weeks time we will be back on the Sachsenring and there we will be hoping for a good practice result to build on Donington.'' Circuit: dry /31°C Air Temperature: 20°C
