SAM Ermolenko was at his brilliant best to inspire Wolverhampton to a hard fought 49-41 win over bitter rivals Coventry at Monmore.
Ermolenko was the star turn after the interval to help the title hopefuls recover from a narrow deficit. The lead switched on more than one occasion and with just four races to go Ermolenko''s men were staring defeat in the face. But the 43-year-old responded with a fine ride in Heat 12 to partner Adam Skornicki to a precious 5-1 which put Wolves two-points ahead. Bees skipper Andreas Jonsson won Heat 13 but with Mikael Max and David Howe packing the minor placings Wolves remained two-up. Ermolenko then pulled off the matchwinning ride in the penultimate race, just as it looked like they would need a last heat decider. He again teamed up with Skornicki for a 5-1 after an entertaining race with Sergey Darkin edged out into third place after an impressive display earlier in the night. Max when won the last race with Ermolenko settling for third. Jonsson edged him out after Max pulled away to win by a convincing margin. Wolverhampton''s strength in depth was the key and they deserve full credit for a magnificent fightback after the struggling Bees had threatened to collect their first away win of the season. WOLVES: Sam Ermolenko 14, Mikael Max 13, David Howe 9+1, Adam Skornicki 8+2, Freddie Lindgren 3+1, Chris Neath 2+1. COVENTRY: Sergey Darkin 13+1, Andreas Jonsson 11+1, Chris Harris 5+1, Billy Janniro 5, Stuart Robson 3+1, Morten Risager 3, Tomasz Piszcz 1.
