MOTOGP STARS EXCITED BY INVESTMENT IN BIRMINGHAM FACTORY
28 June 2006 - Goodyear

Spanish MotoGP star Carlos Checa, British teammate James Ellison, and their French based factory Tech-3 Yamaha team paid a visit to Birmingham yesterday to tour the Dunlop Motorsport facility based at Fort Dunlop, Erdington.

Ahead of the British Motorcycle GP which takes place this weekend at Donington Park, the stars saw at first hand the major investment made by the company with the aim of giving Dunlop''s teams and riders the competitive edge in the highest level of world racing.

More than 80% of the riders competing in the British GP will be racing on Dunlop tyres this weekend at Donington Park. Not only have Dunlop won more GrandsPrix than all the other tyre companies combined , but the tyres produced in Birmingham also dominate national championships across the globe, including the highly competitive Bennetts British Superbike Championship.

''In recent months, a seven-figure sum has been invested in the Dunlop Motorsport plant in upgrading the Fort Dunlop manufacturing facility. This includes investment in new machinery, training and IT solutions to deliver the performance levels that are required to compete in the world''s most demanding race environment '' stated Jean-Felix Bazelin, General Manager, Motorsport.

Fresh from top ten placings at the last two Grands Prix in Spain and Holland, Carlos Checa stated '' Tyres play an absolutely critical role in MotoGP. Dunlop are working very hard and we are making real progress. It is great to see the commitment made by the company to move to the next step so we can challenge for podiums later in the season''

Birmingham built Dunlop tyres are also used in a wide range of four wheel championships. The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship is now Britain''s premier car racing category, and this weekend also sees ex-Formula One legends Mika Hakkinen, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jean Alesi racing on Dunlop tyres at Brands Hatch as the spectacular Audi versus Mercedes battle which is the German Touring Car Championship, DTM, comes to England.

The Birmingham plant produces around 400,000 specialist competition tyres a year for UK and export markets all over the globe and employs a 300-strong group comprising research, development, manufacturing, engineering and commercial teams.
