WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY NEWS AND RESULTS
27 June 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway
Elite League: WOLVERHAMPTON 53 COVENTRY 43 BILLY Hamill blasted back to top form against his parent club to lead Wolverhampton to the local derby honours at Monmore Green. Hamill dropped just one point in five outings, beaten by Bees skipper Scott Nicholls in Heat 11, as he regained his customary home track form after a blip last week against Peterborough. Wolves'' victory was based on the foundations of a whirlwind start in tricky, drizzly conditions - which did not stop Peter Karlsson from smashing the track record in Heat 1, lowering the mark to 55.05 seconds. Two 5-1s in the first four races put Wolves in full control, with Coventry unable to field a rider in three heats due to the late arrival of Martin Smolinski, who had travel problems. Then it was a case of consolidation with Coventry producing a series of race winners, but Wolves generally packed in for second and third places with Christian Hefenbrock once again scoring a number of useful points. Tactical ride wins from Nicholls and Rory Schlein saw the Bees pull the gap back to six points, but Hamill and Karlsson were to the fore as they took maximum points off Nicholls and Chris Harris in Heat 13. And with Karlsson sitting out Heat 15 due to a groin strain, Wolves still managed a heat advantage in the last race as Hamill got the better of Nicholls in a no-nonsense battle with Freddie Lindgren, who had had a tremendous battle with Pawel Hlib one race earlier, taking third place. WOLVERHAMPTON: Billy Hamill 14, Peter Karlsson 10+1, Fredrik Lindgren 10, Christian Hefenbrock 9+3, William Lawson 4+2, Ronnie Correy 4+2, Magnus Karlsson 2+1. COVENTRY: Scott Nicholls 13, Rory Schlein 11, Billy Janniro 6+1, Chris Harris 6, Olly Allen 4, Pawel Hlib 3+1, Martin Smolinski 0.
