PIROVANO TOPS GSX-R QUALIFYING
25 June 2006 - Suzuki Racing
Former World Supersport Champion and ‘Wild Card’ Fabrizio Pirovano showed everyone the way around Misano today in qualifying for the Suzuki GSX-R European Cup by taking pole position nearly half a second ahead of his nearest rival Xavier Simeon
Local Pirovano (46) was almost a second-and-half ahead of 16-year-old Simeon, who currently leads the FIM Superstock 600 European Championship on his Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra GSX-R600, after finishing second in today’s fourth-round race. Third on the grid is Simone Castellani with Daniele Beretta completing the front row. Fabrizio Pirovano - 1st, 1:39.550: “I’m having so much fun here and today was another just about perfect day. The bike was perfect. The tyres slid a bit in the heat but it was completely predictable and easy to control. I know I’ve done a lot of laps round here compared to these youngsters but I still want to win the race tomorrow and show them there’s a lot of life in the old dog!” Xavier Simeon - 2nd, 1:40.968: “I improved my lap time from yesterday so I am happy. Also, it’s no disgrace being second to Piro and I know he will not be scoring any points so I just have to go out tomorrow and run my own race without worrying about him. But, if there’s a chance for me to pass him at any stage, I’ll do it!”
