TWO WEEKS TO GO TO THE GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED!
23 June 2006 - Honda (UK)

Casey Stoner – one of Honda’s up-and-coming young talents in MotoGP – is looking forward to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which takes place in just a few weeks time.

The Australian will be appearing at the British GP just days before the Festival, and the week and a half he’ll spend in the UK will be almost a ‘homecoming’ for the 20-year-old rider.

An excited Stoner said: ''Goodwood sounds like a great event. From what I''ve seen in the past it''s a fantastic gathering of everything in motor sport and I''m really looking forward to participating. I''ll have my MotoGP race bike with me so I''ll hopefully give the fans a thrill!''

Casey raced in the UK and won the 2001 British 125cc title, so he’s looking forward to riding his latest machine – his Team LCR RC211V – both at the British GP and at the prestigious Festival of Speed event. He will be joined by a host of Honda stars over the weekend of 7 July to 9 July, including 2004 World Superbike champion James Toseland and his Winston Ten Kate Honda Fireblade and HM Plant teamsters Karl Harris and Ryuichi Kiyonari on their Honda Racing CBR1000RRs.

Stars from yesteryear will include fans’ favourite Ron Haslam on his Honda-powered 1986 Elf-3 machine. Luigi Taveri and Tommy Robb will be sharing an RC162 machine from 1961, while Ralph Bryans and Stuart Graham will be enjoying the RC174 from 1967 and legendary classic racer Bob Heath will be riding an RC173. Another legend making a return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed is Italian legend Giacomo Agostini, who took 15 world titles from the 1960s and 1970s.

As well as bikes, Honda will be at Goodwood in force on four wheels as well, with British F1 ace Jenson Button making an appearance over the weekend alongside Matt Neal, Honda’s reigning British Touring Car Champion. Matt will be at the wheel of his title-winning Honda Integra Type-R BTCC car all weekend. Meanwhile John Surtees – motorcycling legend-turned Formula 1 World Champion – will be making a welcome return in the Honda RA 300. Another driver who enjoyed Honda power in his days in F1 – Nigel Mansell – will also be making his Goodwood debut in a Lotus and a Williams from his glory years.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed has been a major event in the motorsports calendar for more than a decade. It is a hill-climb event that marries the current Earl of March’s love of motorsports on two and four wheels with a passion for the history of racing cars and motorcycles. It’s all set in the glorious grounds of Goodwood, near Chichester in West Sussex.
