RESEARCH REVEALS THE ‘F’ FACTOR IS REVITALISED BY MOTORCYCLING
29 June 2006 - Motor Cycle Industry Association Ltd
Research carried out by the Motor Cycle Industry Association revels that the ‘F’ factor is live and kicking for National Motorcycle Week.
Huddersfield University researched rider’s attitudes in a project ‘The Search for Adventure in Motorcycling’ and found that, freedom, fun and friendship emerged as important themes for riders – alongside ‘fulfilment’. The research looked into attitudes and perceptions of safety and training and found that riders emerge from training with more enthusiasm about motorcycling. Most riders choose to ride because motorcycling represents an enjoyable part of their life and inevitably routes of rider development are selected because they are fun and provide goal fulfilment in biking in the short term e.g. track days or because they contribute to the experiences that allow personal motorcycling careers to flourish. Riders emerge from rider training with more motorcycling skills and greater skills unlock greater fulfilment in motorcycling. This in turn allows people to have more fun and freedom. Freedom is enhanced by training as riders’ aspirations reflect that most of them expect to be riding more safely, further and probably touring too. MCI’s Craig Carey-Clinch said, “Motorcycling has many benefits and this years National Motorcycle Week campaign is highlighting four key aspects – Fun, freedom, friendship and flexibility. There are more reasons than ever for riders to use their bikes more frequently and for others to start riding if they want to get the ‘F’ factor” “ This research emphasises how a rider, or someone who is thinking about riding can get more out of their machine. Training, will not only make riders safer, but will enhance their overall experience so they can fully enjoy the fun and freedom of a bike, scooter or moped”
