RSV 1000 2006, THE COMMENTS FROM THE PRESS
21 February 2006 - Aprilia

From our media friends come the fresh impressions of the new RSV: headlights pointed at the testing on the Doha circuit where the 1000 from Noale showed off all of her horsepower on the track at the international preview.

Here are the first comments:

If at a careless first glance the motorcycle only seemed slightly changed or not at all in respect to the previous version, with a more in-depth gaze you realize that the beast from Noale has undergone a tweaking at all levels whether from an aesthetic, aerodynamic, mechanical, or component point of view. Everything was finalized by improving the performance on the track without forgetting what is necessary for everyday use that brings our beloved to the sea or the mountainous Dolomite passes...
The new brake pad supports the anterior calipers at the radial lug. It is a system developed by Aprilia in partnership with Brembo and is no secret: The Noale Production House was the first to use it in competition, giving this sophisticated braking system a 250 GP motorcycle. The advantages are many, starting at improved braking efficiency and arriving at more precision in the system’s response to the rider’s commands, almost completely avoiding parts of the track totally void of level due to the “elasticity” of the caliper as the radial fixing impedes any movement of the caliper itself...
Its entrance into curves is very efficient and you can handle the trajectory with great naturalness, aided by great riding precision obtained by the solid placing of its various mechanical components. You can add in the Venetian V2’s push that increases the increment of power in respect to the previous version (and also meets the strict Euro 3 qualifications), that hasn’t taken away from the full low and medium speeds in any way, they remain absolutely emphasized so much that they allow you to come out of turns like lightening. The take-off is also good even though it’s advisable to change gears at around 10,500 rotations to obtain maximum productivity...

INFOMOTORI

The usual, great Aprilia RSV. With these few words you can perfectly describe the new 1000 from Noale. There weren’t any earth-shattering changes and therefore, you can expect that there wouldn’t be any notable changes in the riding...
When you have to shave off time it helps you out by heading into tight and unexpected turns with great trajectory and an engine that brings you out of curves like few others. Actually, it is the engine that is the pleasant surprise of the ’06 model. When tackling the Euro 3 and V2, its even further improved allocation didn’t lose an ounce of the desire to elongate at high speeds. The gear change led is still there, placed at 10,500, exactly where we found in Mugello in 2003 on the occasion of the first RSV tests. Therefore, the technicians’ work definitely needs to be applauded as they were once again able to improve its performance... The motorcycle, the R, is already capable of extracting grand emotions. Certainly, you try out the Factory and love it, but you understand it can do even better. The effect of the molded carbon rims (4 kilograms less) makes the engine seem even more generous but it is especially in the curves that the Factory makes a difference. Still faster and incisive in distances, it is even more adapted to aggressive and professional riding with brakes that extend themselves well into the curves and even more unexpected acceleration. The major overall lightness also brings an increased physiological sensibility of the steering wheel given the lesser masses in movement. Yet, they are just trifles since efficiency is again increased and the traction is incredible.

MOTORBOX

A bi-cylindrical engine with 60° V and 143 horsepower, extraordinary allocation, power at medium speeds, a good balance of the frame, and an advantageous relationship between price and quality…

The bi-cylindrical Rotax with a 60° V is able to allocate an impressive amount of power up to 143 CV (four more than the previous RSV) with a sensational demonstration of the 10.3 kgm in the bend of a very steady curve. The aspiration now comes with the butterfly bodies that have a 57 mm diameter, controlled by Siemens-VDO electronics. The decisively advanced AVDC anti-vibration system with a double balance shaft and hydraulic device with double limitation and PPC release that avoids wheel blockages at maximum intervals. Though it wasn’t particularly necessary, on a couple of occasions it didn’t allow the motorcycle to cross itself which we appreciated greatly. The improved the working of the engine, therefore increased power, also derived from the increased diameter of the exhaust valve (33 versus 31 mm) and by the larger collecting ducts. Yet the increased pair at low speeds and the homogeneity of the allocation gush forth from the secondary exhaust duct elongated by 200 mm, the new Euro 3 silencers with an even closer catalyst to the exhaust ducts, and the new mapping of the gear case.
