AIM RACING SUFFERS BAD LUCK AT SNETTERTON PARK WITH A DNF
19 June 2006 - Aim Racing
AIM Racings’ bad luck in the British Supersport Championship continued this weekend with a disappointing DNF.
With Chris Burns back from injury the team were hoping for a strong finish at this weekend’s Supersport race. The race meeting started well with the AIM rider placed 4th during much of the 1st free practice session. Qualifying was a different story with Chris struggling for grip throughout much of the 2nd qualifying session. Chris started the race from the 4th row in 13th position. It was on the opening lap that the Yamaha R6 started to lose power and finally gave up during the 3rd. Chris commented “I feel really disappointed this weekend, I have been working hard on my fittest to ensure a full recovery from my injury and I was due some good luck. The race meeting started off great, we were all fired up, the lads came back from the TT with a good set of results and I wanted to continue that theme. Things started to go wrong for me during qualifying when I was unable to get a tow down the back straight. You need to do that here to makeup some additional time as it’s quite difficult to overtake. You could see the faster riders all grouped together looking at for this opportunity. I could not time my pit entry right to join those groups. For some reason we were at opposite ends of the paddock to the rest of the 600 teams, I was getting so frustrated during the final session so 13th position is not too bad. I wanted to do two things this weekend; they were to stay on the bike and get a good points finish. I have not scored a single championship point since the opening round at Brands Hatch. As the race got underway the bike moved off the line really slow, it felt like I had started the race in 3rd gear or something. The bike just got worse as we headed down the back straight, I had riders passing me all over the place. During the 3rd lap the bike got really bad and gave up the ghost. I thought I had blown an engine but I could not see any smoke or tale tail signs of a damaged engine. I pulled over and watch the rest of the race.” Alistair Flanagan commented “Currently we are not too sure why Chris has had this failure. We are now investigating the problem and hope to determine the root cause soon. I feel sorry for Chris and the rest of the team at the moment. Chris has missed a lot of the season due to an injury and this happens on his return, he must have used up all his bad luck by now” For all the latest news and pictures visit the AIM Racing website at www.aim-racing.co.uk
