BRITISH SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 5.9.04
05 September 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
TONY Rickardsson took his first Grand Prix win of the season in Slovenia to cut the gap on World Championship leader Jason Crump.
The Swede''s victory takes him to second place in the standings, 15 points behind Crump, who failed to make the Final, and a point ahead of Greg Hancock. Rickardsson headed Hancock home in the Final with Hans Andersen third and Andreas Jonsson fourth. POOLE promoter Matt Ford is targeting a notable achievement of back-to-back titles - a feat which has not been achieved for sixteen years. The Pirates headed the regular Elite League table and have qualified directly for the Play-Off Final, and are awaiting their opponents. Ford said: ''We hope to keep the scores as close as possible in the first leg and then try to win the trophy in front of our own fans.''
