RR WCH 125 6TH RACE: ITALIAN GRAND PRIX/MUGELLO RACE
04 June 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

Circuit: Dry
Air temperature 16°C

KTM pilot Mika Kallio sixth in Mugello

After the first lap, Mika Kallio was in seventh position with team colleague Julian Simon 0.4 seconds behind in ninth place. Both Red Bull KTM GP 125 riders delivered a virtual one-on-one duel in a pack of more than 20 competitors. Three riders took the lead after the fifth lap putting some distance between themselves and the following group, where Mika Kallio and Julian Simon had positioned themselves. When the checkered flag fell at the conclusion of the 20-lap race, Mika Kallio of Finland finished in sixth place with Spaniard Julian Simon just one place behind in seventh.

There were no trophies for the riders of the Red Bull KTM GP 125 team in Mugello on Sunday but they did pick up valuable points. Julian Simon moved up the overall standings into seventh place with Kallio remaining second.

The race was held in brilliant sunshine and in front of packed grandstands.

Mika Kallio # 36 Red Bull KTM GP 125 — 6th place
“In the crush of the first round someone knocked off my knee padon my right leg and I had no feeling in the right hand corners. That was why I lost so much time in the first laps and why I lost contact with the front group. It was a real shame because my KTM was going really well today.”

Julian Simon # 60 Red Bull KTM GP 125 — 7th place
“The plan was to finish with a better result but when you start from 12th on the grid you meet up with a huge pack of riders in the first corner and you can’t ride the way you really want to. I just tried my best to stay close to the front and to improve a few places at a time. The gear ration on my sixth gear was a bit too short and meant I was being overtaken on the long straights. That was the reason I didn’t manage to move up more places during the race, but could only follow.''

Stefan Bradl # 17 Red Bull KTM Junior Team — 16th place
“Well, there’s not a lot to say about today. It wasn’t that good for me. I had a good start then Corsi pushed me out in the first corner. That was the reason I was not able to stick with Michi. After that, I more or less had to ride my own race. There were about four seconds between me and the riders in front and about five second to those behind me. The bottom line is learn, learn….”

Michael Ranseder # 9 Red Bull KTM Junior Team — Crash
“It was going really well up to my crash. Even in the second lap I was faster than my qualifying time. It was a lot of fun and I had some hard but good battles. Then in the seventh lap I went a bit too quickly into the “Arabiata“, and lost the front ….''
