RR WCH 250 Round 6: Grand Prix of Italy/Mugello Final Qualifying (03.06.2006)

Hiroshi Aoyama starts from third row in Mugello

Track: dry
Weather: 20°C

The sixth race of the Grand Prix season in Italy’s Mugello is another new circuit in the KTM FRR calendar. The unusual circuit characteristics, with many high speed changes, demands a totally different chassis setup when compared to the previous race two weeks ago in Le Mans. The Red Bull ADAC KTM GP 250 team has experimented with various settings and is optimistic that they have found the right solution for the race on Sunday.

Hiroshi Aoyama #4 Red Bull KTM GP 250 — 11th Position — 1’54.901
“Even though we had some problems in the morning we managed to find a good setup for the chassis. That wasn’t so easy because the characteristics of Mugello demand something completely different from the motorbike than we have been used to on the other circuits earlier in the season. It is really important to have good high speed handling for the fast changes on the course. Then there is the added difficulty of having an extremely bumpy surface in some places. But I think we are ready with a good solution for tomorrow.
My starting position at 11th on the grid is somewhat further back than in the other races, but we’re also not too far of the pace. It will be important to have a good start in tomorrow’s race and to go at full speed right from the beginning. That should give us a good race and we will see that anything is possible.''

Manuel Poggiali # 54 Red Bull KTM GP 250 — 18th Position — 1’56.269 “Mugello is my home Grand Prix so I will have a lot of fans supporting me. Naturally as a rider I want to do the best I can. I tried everything and I cut off 1.4 seconds of my yesterdays time. To do any better than 1’56.269 wasn’t possible for me today. I will give my best tomorrow in the race and to try to improve as many positions as possible.”
