SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES - 16TH JUNE
16 June 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 SHANE Parker hopes he and partner Danny Bird can live up to the weight of home expectations when Glasgow stage the Premier League Pairs on Sunday. Parker won the title with George Stancl last season, but the Czech has moved on to Newcastle this year. Parker said: ''There is more pressure on us and I know we are favourites in some people''s eyes, but the quality of opposition is very high.'' SPEEDWAY 2 INJURED Somerset star Paul Fry has not given up hope of racing again this season after having an operation on his broken leg. Fry has had a plate inserted in his left leg, which has been re-plastered from foot to thigh. He said: ''I hope to be back in the gym within three weeks and I want to be back in the saddle before the end of the season.'' SPEEDWAY 3 WEYMOUTH are appealing to all speedway fans to help them get speedway back to the Wessex Stadium, having recently submitted a planning application to the local council. If the planning bid is successful the Wildcats could return to the track in late July, possibly entering the Conference Shield competition. The Wildcats are asking all speedway fans to assist by writing letters of support to West Dorset District Council quoting the reference number 1/E/06/000919. The address is: Development Services Manager, West Dorset District Council, 58/60 High West Street, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 1UZ. Alternatively you can email your comments to the case officer, Andrew Martin, at the following email address: a.martin@westdorset-dc.gov.uk. This application is due to be decided on Thursday 6 July so all comments should be made by the end of this month.
