SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES - 6TH JUNE
06 June 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association

POOLE have confirmed that they have axed Swedish reserve Daniel Davidsson and plan to replace him with the experienced Shaun Tacey.

Davidsson has struggled to make an impact away from home, and has lost his place after his home form also dropped.

Promoter Matt Ford said: ''Daniel has found the going a bit tough lately, but Shaun has an attacking style that is well suited to most Elite League tracks.''

WORKINGTON''S Paul Thorp is hoping for good news on his injury after crashing out at Rye House last weekend.

It was initially thought that the experienced Comets star had broken a foot, but he may have escaped with tendon damage.

Promoter Graham Drury said: ''After the swelling goes down he''ll visit his local hospital to get a more accurate picture, but it certainly could have been worse.''

FORMER World No. 2 and British Champion Malcolm Simmons enjoyed his first Grand Prix at Cardiff on Saturday - but is dismayed at the continuing absence of Brits from the Championship challenge.

Lee Richardson managed just five points while Great Britain No.1 Scott Nicholls failed to go beyond the semi-final stage.

Simmons, who captained England and won four World Team Cup and three World Pairs titles in the 70s, says: ''I thought the whole show at Cardiff was superb. Peter Collins was sat just in front of me and we both said that it was like being back at Wembley in the 70s. The atmosphere was incredible and we both felt part of it.''

Simmons, now 60, was at the Millennium Stadium to launch his highly controversial new book, Simmo: The Whole Truth.

The hard-hitting and ground-breaking publication is available from Retro Speedway for £15.99 (post-free in the UK). You can order it online at www.retro-speedway.com or phone their credit card hotline on 01708 734 502.
