NO REST FOR CAMEL YAMAHA TEAM IN MUGELLO
06 June 2006 - Yamaha Racing

Following yesterday’s spectacular victory in front of his passionate home crowd at Mugello, Valentino Rossi was back on board his YZR-M1 this afternoon for another day of testing alongside team-mate Colin Edwards.

Rossi and Edwards continued working on set-up of the latest evolution of the 2006 bike, which features a new chassis first used by Valentino in Le Mans and which is now being used by Edwards as well. Edwards also tested some new Michelin tyres and Rossi had hoped to do likewise, but light rain cut short the session before he could complete the planned tyre work and he finished his day after just 24 laps.

Edwards managed to complete a total of 57 laps with a best time of 1’50.68, whilst Rossi’s fastest lap was a time of 1’50.72. The Team now have a ten-day break before the next group of three races in just three weeks, starting with the Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona next week.

DAVIDE BRIVIO – CAMEL YAMAHA TEAM DIRECTOR

“Today has been a good test for both Valentino and Colin. It’s been helpful to have some more time to test the new chassis and find the perfect set-up, we need to keep improving and carry on with the momentum! It’s important to be able to confirm that we’ve made the right decisions with regards to the direction we’re taking, and to see that the package we used in Le Mans and Mugello is the right one for us. It’s been especially important for Colin because he hasn’t had so much time with the new chassis, but today has given him confidence and confirmed that the package Valentino used this weekend works for him too. This bike is now ready to fight competitively for the rest of the season. As Valentino said yesterday, he needs to be on the podium at every race from now on and we hope that our bike is now ready to do just that for both him and Colin.”

Camel Yamaha Team Times:

1. COLIN EDWARDS, 1’50.68 (57 Laps

2. VALENTINO ROSSI, 1’50.72 (24 Laps)
