SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES - 14TH JUNE
14 June 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 BERWICK promoter Peter Waite has commenced his summer re building by signing James Birkinshaw to replace David Meldrum. Birkinshaw, a Sheffield asset, has been racing in the Conference League for Boston so far this season. Waite said: ''The time is right to let David go and bring in new blood. James is desperately keen to get back into the Premier League and we can offer him that chance to succeed.'' SPEEDWAY 2 DANISH star Charlie Gjedde has been forced to take a week off after damaging his ankle in a crash at Reading on Monday. Gjedde suffered no broken bones, but the ankle currently has pins in it from a previous accident so the injury needs time to recover. The Bulldogs rider will miss Reading''s trip to Coventry on Friday but hopes to return for the local derby against Swindon next week.
