ARENA-ESSEX 44 WOLVES 46 BRILLIANT guest Chris Louis held his nerve in a last-heat decider as Wolves finally notched their long-awaited first away win of the season in a dramatic finish at Purfleet. Wolves went into the last race two points clear and Louis, in for concussion victim Peter Karlsson, managed to hold off Hammers duo Mikael Max and Leigh Lanham, with a challenging Fredrik Lindgren at the back. It was Louis'' third race win of the meeting as he maintained his current form and fully justified his selection as Karlsson''s replacement. But an honourable mention also has to go to fast-improving German youngster Christian Hefenbrock who won his first three rides as he piled up an astonishing paid-16 haul - and that was also key to the victory. Hefenbrock and Ronnie Correy carded a maximum in Heat 12 to put Wolves back in front after they had been hit by consecutive Hammers 5-1s to wipe out their strong start. There was a bizarre accident after Heat 13 as Joonas Kylamkorpi generated huge speed to pass Billy Hamill coming towards the line, but could not slow up after the race and hit team-mate Mikael Max. Kylmakorpi fell heavily and sustained shoulder and/or collarbone damage. Heat 14 had several changes of position with Lindgren passing both Arena riders in the early stages before Lanham managed to regain the lead. However, Hefenbrock was the hero once again as he claimed third spot from Mariusz Puszakowski on the penultimate lap. That left Wolves two points ahead, and the lead proved to be enough as Louis made the start and did all that was necessary to steer the Monmore men to that much-needed away win. ARENA-ESSEX: Mikael Max 11+1, Leigh Lanham 11+1, Paul Hurry 10+2, Joonas Kylmakorpi 7+1, Steve Johnston 4+1, Mariusz Puszakowski 1+1, r/r for Henning Bager. WOLVES: Christian Hefenbrock 13+3, Chris Louis 13, Fredrik Lindgren 8, Billy Hamill 6+1, Ronnie Correy 5+1, Magnus Karlsson 1, Dan Giffard 0.
