TWO FOURTH PLACE CUP FINISHES FOR M.A.R RIDER HOWARTH
09 June 2006 - M.A.R

Michael Howarth from the M.A.R team continued his steady return to form at Mallory Park in Leicestershire last weekend picking up two fourth place finishes in the Superstock Cup

His return to fitness following a broken ankle he suffered prior to the start of the season was helped by the cancellation of the previous Superbike Cup round at Mondello Park. The extended rest allowed him to make a real step forward at Mallory Park where he did enough to qualify for the main Superbike Championship races under very sunny skies.

In the first race Howarth avoided a start-line crash involving Glen Richards and brought home the M.A.R Kawasaki ZX10 in fourth place in the Superbike Cup in what was a very mature performance.

This was backed up with another fourth place finish in the second race that sees Howarth currently lying eighth overall in the Superbike Cup championship in what was his first opportunity to score points this season.

Howarth and the M.A.R team made a return to Mallory Park (Wednesday) for further testing before he headed out to the USA for a week of rest and to investigate possible opportunities for a ride at Daytona next year.

Team boss Malcolm Ashley said that by his own admission Michael wasn’t as quick as he’d like to be but everyone knew it would take him a while to fully recover.

“Michael knows he isn’t as quick as he wants but his ankle is still not 100%. It’s a case of being a little patient and letting the injury take its natural course. In the meantime though we aren’t resting on our laurels with both Michael and Richard continuing to pound out the laps and gain experience through testing and MRO appearances.”

M.A.R Superstock Cup rider Richard Marchant has been forced to endure an even longer lay-off as the Superstock Championship did not go to Ireland or Mallory Park.

He has however been undertaking further testing and will be contesting the next round of the MRO Championship prior to a return to British Superbike Championship action with the M.A.R team at Snetterton, near Norwich on the 18th June.
