WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY NEWS - 12 JUNE
12 June 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway
WOLVERHAMPTON 47 EASTBOURNE 43 PETER Karlsson and Billy Hamill conjured up a memorable Heat 15 maximum to maintain Wolves'' unbeaten home Elite League record this season. As expected Eastbourne provided a stern test, even without the injured David Norris, and the dynamic duo had to take a heat advantage from the last race against Nicki Pedersen. The Dane made the best start but Karlsson made the best exit from turn two and hit the front on the back straight - and with Pedersen trying to respond around the third and fourth bends, Hamill shot through on the inside to send the Wolves fans into raptures. Pedersen had twice earlier lowered the colours of Karlsson, both in classic races, but Hamill had also taken a race win over the 2003 World Champion - having also broken the tapes in his first ride when he faced the Eagles'' top man. It took until Heat 8 for Wolves to take the lead with a 5-1 from Magnus Karlsson and Christian Hefenbrock, but Eastbourne hit straight back when Fredrik Lindgren''s challenge on Pedersen in the next race dropped him from second to fourth. The scores remained level throughout five shared heats, with Hefenbrock coming to grief in Heat 12 and then finishing last on borrowed machinery in Heat 14. Fortunately, race wins for the impressive Ronnie Correy and Lindgren limited the damage, even though it piled the pressure on Hamill and Peter Karlsson for the big races. Pedersen managed to hold his advantage in Heat 13, but the Wolves pairing were in no mood for a repeat peformance in the last race as they held their nerve for a match-clinching 5-1. WOLVES: Peter Karlsson 13, Billy Hamill 9+2, Ronnie Correy 9+1, Fredrik Lindgren 7+1, Christian Hefenbrock 6+1, Magnus Karlsson 3, Ben Wilson 0. EASTBOURNE: Nicki Pedersen 15, Lewis Bridger 8+1, Dean Barker 7+4, Adam Shields 5+1, Edward Kennett 5+1, Cameron Woodward 3+1, r/r for David Norris.
