TRIUMPH WINS “MASTERBIKE”!
01 June 2006 - Triumph Motorcycles Ltd
Hot on the heels of winning the “Supertest” in March 2006, the Triumph Daytona Triple has just scooped the prestigious “Masterbike” 2006 award for the “Best Supersport” bike, beating the second-placed Yamaha R6 by a substantial margin.
An annual event, “Masterbike” is an independent track-test for sports bikes, organised by Motociclismo, the best-selling bike magazine in Spain. The “Masterbike” test is considered one of the most important and influential magazine tests due to its impartiality and fairness. Bikes are split into three categories - Supersport, Superbike and Maxisport - and magazines from 17 countries around the globe send their fastest riders to test each bike based on strict criteria; • 40% of the score is based on the average lap time of the 6 fastest riders • 40% of the score is based on the bike each rider scored their fastest lap on • 20% of the score is based on a comprehensive survey completed on each bike by every rider The Triumph Daytona Triple took first place in every scoring category. Over half a second faster than the competition, 10 out of 17 riders completed their fastest lap on it. With an impressive 8.5 out of 10 in the rider survey, the test proved to many what Triumph has known all along – the Daytona Triple has become the new benchmark for middleweight sports bikes. Commercial Director Tue Mantoni commented: “Winning “Masterbike” is a great achievement and it’s a great testament to Triumph’s design team that we have delivered the world leader in the most hotly contested segment of the motorcycle market.” The Daytona Triple is a powerful illustration of Triumph’s commitment to a strong model development programme and demonstrates the firm’s commitment to distinctive design and engineering excellence. Triumph Motorcycles Limited has experienced 3 years of exceptional sales growth and, with bikes like the Daytona Triple coming out of the Hinckley factory, is well on target to hit its 25% year-on-year growth targets.
