SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES - 30TH MAY
30 May 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 SWINDON''S Russian star Renat Gafurov is in hospital in Latvia with head and back injuries after crashing during last weekend''s World Cup qualifier. Reports indicate that Gafurov has nothing broken but must remain in hospital until the weekend, ruling him out of the Robins'' matches this week. Promoter Alun Rossiter said: ''This is a real blow, just as Renat was about to start a spell at reserve.'' SPEEDWAY 2 SCUNTHORPE made history with a maximum 75-15 win over Newport - the first time the feat has been achieved at Conference League level. Co-promoter Rob Godfrey said: ''The boys said they could do it with a few heats remaining, and the feeling was very emotional at the end. ''Whatever happens now, nobody can take that achievement by a Scunthorpe team out of the sport''s record books.''
