ROBERTS KEEPS GSX-R POLE
27 May 2006 - Suzuki GB PLC

Jarno van der Marel was the fastest in the wet Suzuki GSX-R Cup Qualifying session today at Silverstone

Marel set the fastest time of the 40-minute session, but it will be Aussie Brendan Roberts on pole position for tomorrow’s race because of his lap of 1:31.570 yesterday in the dry.

Second on the grid for the third round of the Championship is series leader Xavier Simeon with ‘wild card’ Tommy Bridewell third and Magnus Houston fourth.

Brendan Roberts – Pole:

”I am really happy to be on Pole for the race tomorrow and looking forward to the 14 laps and having some fun along the way. I didn’t stick my neck out today because I knew that nobody was going to go any quicker in the wet than yesterday. I just put in the laps and tried to get the feel of the track in the wet, but I think that it’s going to be dry tomorrow. I would prefer a dry race and I think everybody else would like the same. Being a ‘wild card’ means that there’s no real pressure on me, but I will be going all out for the win for sure.”

Jarno Van Der Marel:

”It was good to be the fastest rider today, but in the end it doesn’t mean too much because I only qualified 12th in the dry. The track was very difficult in the wet because some corners had good grip and some corners did not! We changed the bike a lot from yesterday because of the conditions, but I think we know what to do if it is wet or dry tomorrow - though I would prefer a dry race.”

Final Qualifying: 1 J Van Der Marel, 2 X Simeon, 3 S Gallis, 4 M Janakova, 5 G Junod, 6 I Bonilla.
