BERWICK have lodged an appeal against their weekend home defeat by the Isle of Wight after Stanislaw Burza was banned for the match. The Bandits were unhappy that they were forced to use a junior rider in place of the Pole. Promoter Peter Waite said: ''We have asked for a re-staging of the meeting. As with other recent bans it should not be the club who suffer, only the rider.'' (SPEEDWAY 2) NEWCASTLE manager George English said the Diamonds'' dramatic Cup victory over Workington was as good as anything he had seen at the club. A last-heat 5-1 from James Grieves and Josef Franc took the home side through by a one-point aggregate margin, setting up a quarter-final clash with Glasgow. English said: ''I rate this as possibly the best victory for a Diamonds side ever, it was absolutely stupendous.''
