WASH OUT FOR SUPERSPORT RACE
21 May 2006 - Aim Racing

The 5th Round of the British Supersport Championship was cancelled at Mondello today (21-05-06) due to heavy rain.

The surface water could not be drained away from the track; therefore Race Director Stuart Higgs cancelled the event based on safety grounds.

The race will be rescheduled for a later date.

Chris Burns commented “Cancelling the event was the right thing to do, we went out this morning and all the riders were very cautious throughout the warm-up session. You could not see 2 metres in front of you and it was like riding on ice. This weekend is the first time I have been on a bike since I broke my foot. This is also the first time I have been to Mondello and I did not realise how demanding it was. The track is made up of just a large amount of corners and it’s quite bumpy. Although I am now back to a full training programme in the gym this track has really given my foot a full workout. I would have been okay for the race but its still not 100%. As we are not racing today it has given me a little more time to rest, it should be back to full health for Mallory in two weeks time. Therefore for delaying the race has helped my championship challenge.”

Alistair Flanagan went on to add “Today has been the wettest race day I can remember and I have been at some wet races over the years. The whole track is underwater and it would have been a foolish or very brave man to race in these conditions. This circuit is very demanding and we would have had a repeat of Donington Park all over again. Chris is not yet full race fitness. Therefore any additional rest he can get will be a bonus.

We are now entering the busy phase of our racing calendar as we are making our final preparations for the TT and continuing to develop the Supersport bike for Chris.
