CRASHES AND VICTORIES FOR KTM RIDERS IN REUTLINGEN
25 May 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG
Reutlingen(D), 5th in line of the MX3 series, offered variaty of short turns, full throttle uphill sweeps and a big nasty downhill jump.
Weatherconditions where unpredicatble and rain turned the track from rock-hard into a greasy claypit in a few minutes. On timepractice, Sven immediatly went out for a flying lap while Yves waited for a dry line. Yves gambled and lost when sudden heavy rainfall ruined his chances of seting best time.Result of this saturday-afternoon lottery; Zaremba 1, Breugelmans 2, Demaria 11. With a clear holeshot, race 1 started accoring to plan for Sven. Ony moments later unfortunatly he crashed and found himself picking up his bike in 40th positon. To his surprise he passed Yves Demaria who had crashed also as his frontwheel slipped in the chicane. On top of that a following rider smashed his bike into Yve´s causing damage to the subframe and handlebar wich kept Yves from a quick restart. Both JM-riders were in hot persuit of Ristori, Beggi and Oddenino, passing up to 4 riders per lap.At the checkered flag Sven squized out 11th and Yves a 17th position result. The loss of time due to the crashes was just too much. Sven an Yves where both pumped to the max to get a good result the second race. At the end of the first lap, Sven was in second position behind Honda mounted Martin Zerava with Yves in 5th position. Zerava kept Sven at bay until lap 12. Meanwhile Yves had worked his way up behind Sven when in lap 12 as they both passed Zerava in lap 13. Now the race was really on! Sven gave it all he got and managed to move away from Yves who had no intention to let that happen. At three laps before race-end Sven made a mistake and immediatly Yves moved in for the pass. In the following 3 round ''clash of the titans'' the spectators got their money´s worth as they witnessed top-MX racing ending with Yves pushing his frontwheel 0,51 sec. earlier over the line than Sven. ''I stayed too long behind Zerava and let Yves sneek up on me'' was Sven´s comment at the end of the race. With Kenny Vandueren and Bram van Oosterbosch out with unjury and Yentel Martens not making it into the final 40, Joel Roelants was our man in the MX-2 class. During training and qualifying Joel was struggeling with his suspension-settings, which resulted in 8th position qualifier. At race-day Jacky Martens and WP´s Nico Paredis changed the settings which gave a boost in bike-performance. At the start Joel cornered 2nd behind Romain Billerey from france who had created a gap almost instantly. In lap 10 the party was over for Billery when Joel took the lead and never looked back. Joel controlled the race for another 7 laps to finish in style ahead of Austria´s Philip Ringhofer also on (whatelse?) KTM. In the second race Joel cornered in 4th position and passed Mike Valade (KTM) for 3rd.Here he got stuck behind Steven Frossard (KTM) until lap 11 when Yamaha´s Dennis Verbruggen came knocking on his backdoor. Dennis had remonted from 11th position to 4th by then and neither he or Joel were in the mood to give in. For the next five rounds they put up a MX-dogfight in which the more experienced Verbruggen came out on top. No worries for Joel however, who´s 4th position on the finish earned him the overall victory in Reutlingen. At age 16, this is Joel´s first European. Congratulations Joel!! Jacky Martens comment´s '' Joel is a fantastic rider who can win races when his performance is concistent. This has not always been the case sofar but today it was. I really enjoyed watching him perform here today!''
