CARMICHAEL 2ND AT SACRAMENTO
22 May 2006 - Suzuki Racing

Reigning AMA Motocross Champion Ricky Carmichael recovered from a first lap crash to claim second overall at the opening round of the 2006 series at Sacramento, California on Sunday.

After taking the holeshot, the Makita Suzuki rider lost the front end of his RM-Z450 a couple of turns into the opening 30-minute moto, but carved through the pack to take third place behind race winner James Stewart (Kawasaki) and Chad Reed (Yamaha).

In the second race, Carmichael took the holeshot again and this time was never headed, opening up a big lead over runner-up Stewart.

Results and Points (after 1 round): 1 James Stewart (Kawasaki) 47, 2 Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki) 45, 3 Chad Reed (Yamaha) 42, 4 David Vuillemin (Yamaha) 34, 5 Travis Preston (Honda) 33, 6 Nick Wey (Honda) 29.
