BIKERS TO GET KICKS ON THE ROAD DURING WORLD CUP
25 May 2006 - Bennetts
Bennetts, the UK’s number one for motorcycle insurance, has revealed that bikers are planning a summer boycott of the World Cup in favour of taking to the open road.
More than 8 out 10 bikers (84%) will be refusing to let the World Cup affect the amount of time they spend riding during June and July, as they take advantage of the long summer evenings and reduced traffic on the road whilst England are in action in Germany. In a snub to Beckham and Co, a third of all respondents (33%) also said that they are likely to use their bike more during the World Cup, preferring to get their kicks on their bikes rather than spending a month in front of the television or propping up the bar. Although the Bennetts’ Biker Report is not due to be officially unveiled until June, Bennetts has leaked these early findings to show how the ‘national passion’ and World Cup fever doesn’t necessarily affect every corner of the country. Just 1 in 10 (13%) of respondents confessed that they would be using their bike less during the World Cup. Kal Samra, Bennetts Director, said: “Our research shows that bikers are gearing up to take advantage of the open roads this summer rather than watch Sven’s men take on the world in Germany - and who could blame them? With the nation gripped in World Cup fever and glued to the TV, there will be fewer cars on the road, which means motorcycle heaven for bikers across the UK. Just remember to ride safely whilst enjoying the World Cup freedom.” The ‘Bennetts Biker Report’ surveyed more than 500 motorcyclists on current biking issues.
