BRITISH SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 31.8.04
31 August 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
OXFORD promoter Nigel Wagstaff is ready to quit the club - after two years at Cowley.
The Silver Machine are likely to lose their Friday racenight next season and there are also problems in negotiations over the purchase of the club from licence owner Steve Purchase. Wagstaff said: ''Unless anything dramatic changes the home meeting with Ipswich on September 10 will be my last in charge at Cowley.'' NEWCASTLE have been rocked by the news that Jesper Olsen will miss the remaining weeks of the season with serious face injuries. But the Dane has already vowed to return to action next season as the injuries are not related to his previous problems. Diamonds boss George English said: ''Jesper had just won his first race since making a comeback so it''s a real shame we won''t see him again this year.'' HULL fans will get a rare chance to see the potential stars of tomorrow when they stage the Yorkshire Junior Open Championship at Craven Park on Wednesday. Vikings star Joel Parsons will start as favourite but there will be plenty of competition. Hull promoter Eric Boocock said: ''Although Joel will start as favourite as he is the most experienced and a Hull rider, I cannot genuinely pick another winner.'' LINE-UP: David Speight, Benji Compton, Harland Cook, Carl Belfield, Joel Parsons, John Branney, Paul Burnett, Jon Armstrong, Carl Downs, Tony Dart, Mike Pickering, Barry Burchatt, Paul Cooper, Mark Thompson, Byron Becker, Luke Bowen.
